I am a makeup lover and as much as I love doing creative looks I also love going back to the basics and doing simple looks. The first time I heard of this look it didn’t really make sense to me because it is supposed to accentuate things like under eye circles, beauty marks and lots of other things people try to cover up. I did decide to try it in the end and now I go for this look almost everyday. Part of the reason I think I like it is because I usually do warmer coppery makeup looks because that is just what seems trendy at the moment but that doesn’t really suit me because I have a medium skin tone that leans to the cooler side and a lot of the colours you use in this look are cool toned bruise kinda colours. So without further adieu here is how to execute ‘the boy beat’ makeup look.
One thing I recommend is not wearing foundation and maybe use only concealer but in my case I decided to just go for a powder so I’m not super shiny I used Rimmel match perfection in translucent. This way your beauty marks, freckles and unique features of your face can help really enhance the look. The next thing I do is do my brows and since I died my hair black I’ve been using Benefit Ka-Brow in the shade 6. You want to make sure you don’t fill your brows in too heavy handed so it looks more natural. With your brow Gell you want to brush your hairs up so they look more feathery and natural.
I love doing a little nose contour but I struggle a bit because to make it look realistic I continue it up my nose and under my brows a bit. This is fine but I was surfing last year and fell of my board and someone surfed over my face just under my brow so they is a bit of texture from where I was cut which makes it hard to blend out makeup there but oh well. I use a pale pink and light browny purply colour for nose contour but if I wasn’t doing this particular look I’d reach for Benefit hoola bronzer. I also put a bit in the indent between my chin and lips to make my lips appears bigger.
For my eyes I use that same pale pink and browny purply bruisy colour and place it on my lid close to my lash line and under my eyes, again sticking close to the lash line. When you apply it to your lid make sure your not focusing on your crease but instead not giving your eye to much shape.
My favourite part of this look is FAUX FRECKLES and I’m so obsessed with faux freckles at the mo you have no idea. For the freckles I usually with use a plastic toothpick and either dip it in to a warm to browny eyeshadow or ill use my Benefit Ka-Brow in the shade 4. I would recommend using 3 for light to medium skin tone and 4 or 5 for a darker skin tone. I should probably be using 3 but 4 is what I have. You can also use a pencil and benefit have the same shades in the pencil anyway. You want to put them across your cheeks kinda where you put blush but also put them on your nose bridge and to the side of your nose bridge. To help blend out the freckles I like to apply a darker purply pink blush and spread it from my cheeks and also on my nose bit. I used Nip+Fab blusher palette in velvet.
You don’t have to use any of the products I’ve used but if you don’t know for example what colour blush you can search the shade name I mentioned and then you know what shade.
Lastly, lips! I’ve done a lip cocktail and used a couple different lip colours. I started by putting Bare Mineral gen nude radiant lipstick in the shade Panko in the middle of my lips and then applying NYX Lip Lingerie in the shade Honeymoon over top. I then blend it out and run a cue tip along my lip line to soften it.
This is my final look, you may not really be able to see the freckles in the photo because of the lighting but oh well. Good luck and if you re-create this look make sure to tag me on Instagram @hello_its_mai.
